Want to translate the game?
Summer Snow Day is playable in English and Spanish. We would love for it to reach further than that: Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Russian, and any other language someone would like to see it in.
We are a small team, and paying for professional localisation into even one of those is out of our reach right now. What we can do is hand over the file and stay out of the way. If you want to translate Summer Snow Day into your language, it is yours. Write to taarobravo@gmail.com or say hello on the Discord and we will send it across.
The only reason it is not a public download yet is that the file is the whole script in order, ending included. Posting it before release would spoil the game for anyone who wanted to find out by playing. Once we launch, the link goes up here.
What you would be working with
A spreadsheet with 8,314 lines: chapter 1 through the Free Time scenes, the hot springs, the gifts, the romance routes, the killer selection, and all seven endings. It opens in Google Sheets, Excel, LibreOffice, or a text editor.
Five columns. key is the line’s id and never changes, since it is how the game finds the
line. text is the English, and you replace it with your language. optionA, optionB and
optionC hold the choices attached to that line, and are empty on most rows.
A few things that will save you trouble
[n]markers stay. They mark emphasis and line breaks. Keep them, and keep them around the same words they were around in English.- No tabs and no line breaks inside a cell. The file is tab separated, so a stray tab splits the row and the line goes missing.
- Choices use the
[ text ]shape, with the spaces inside the brackets.[ Look outside ]becomes[ your translation ]. - Names stay in English. Honji, Kie, Satsu, Yoshira, Yuto, Udori, Hisano, Jun, Rikuyo, Konoka, Shinju, Kamanori, and the shop names. The descriptors around them do get translated: “Aunt Konoka” and “Chief Ito” become whatever your language does with aunt and chief.
- Save as UTF-8. Anything else eats accents.
You do not have to finish it
The game falls back to English for any line you leave alone, cell by cell. A file with two chapters done works. A file with two hundred lines done works. Nothing breaks and nobody sees an error, they just see English where your translation has not reached yet.
That is deliberate. We would much rather have a partial translation someone actually enjoyed making than an empty slot waiting on a complete one.
When you have something
Send it back the same way and we will test it in the build. If it goes in, you are credited by name in the game.
We should be honest about one limit on our side: we cannot read most of these languages, so we will not be able to judge the quality of the work ourselves. We would be trusting you with it. If you would like a second pair of eyes for a review pass, the Discord is a good place to find one.
